ACG, part of the Umeco Group, are one of the leading manufacturers and suppliers of high performance pre-impregnated (prepreg) advanced fibre reinforced composite materials.  

ACG’s policy is to succeed through the application of technical innovation, identifying technology solutions to meet customer needs and maintain its position in the composite market as the centre of Composites excellence.

To meet the increasing demands for composite materials ACG has recently made a £7 million pounds investment in its facilities and capabilities at its main operating plant in Heanor, Derbyshire.

Part of this considerable investment was the installation of a new “State of the Art” 1600mm wide high precision coating line for the application of resins and adhesives used for the manufacture of prepreg materials.

After lengthy discussions between ACG and E&R Dixon technical personnel a contract for this machine was signed by both companies with design, manufacture and pre delivery hand-over taking place at the E&R plant in Accrington, Lancashire.

Installation and commissioning then took place at the ACG Heanor plant with full production commencing during 2007.

This new reverse roll film coating machine boasts the latest advanced technology and is fully CNC controlled.

The machine is capable of coating both low and high weight resins of viscosities up to 2,000,000 cps. with extreme accuracy using super precision rollers, bearings and adjustments.

Beta-Gauge monitoring of the resin application ensures accurate coat weight measurement and control is maintained.

Due to strict Confidentiality Agreements full technical details of the complete coating line cannot be disclosed but we are able to say that the final  advanced fibre reinforced prepreg materials  are  be found within the world wide aerospace , motor sport and marine industries

Emerson & Renwick Ltd has confirmed the sale through its Dixon Division of a new generation Dixon 160 Pilot Coater to a leading UK manufacturer of coated products.

The Pilot Coater was sold following extensive customer trials on the Dixon in-house coater at Emerson & Renwick Ltd and when delivered will be situated in a purpose built R & D department.

To date Dixon have sold over 1000 Pilot Coaters for many different applications.

This new generation Pilot Coater will be designed to cater for around 40 different coating systems and will be designed to handle aqueous, solvent and 100% solid solutions.

On this particular contract the coating systems will include reverse roll, gravure printing, and hot-melt coating plus inline lamination.

The sectional drive will incorporate the latest AC Vector Drive technology together with automatic tension with a PLC based control system throughout the machine.

The Dixon Division of Emerson & Renwick Ltd has won a major contract with one of the worlds leading manufacturers of security and electronic products based in the Far East for the supply of a Model 1020 Coating and Laminating Machine.

The machine will apply a U.V. curable material onto a polymer web followed by a confidential downstream product processing system supplied by our Dixon.

A modular coating head will be incorporated within this machine to allow the application of high precision coatings either by Slot-die or the Reverse Gravure Process.

This prestigious contract was won in the face of fierce competition from manufactures both in the Far East and Europe.

The Dixon Division of Emerson & Renwick Ltd has sold a 1.5m wide Hot-Melt Knife over Roll Coater/Laminator to a leading edge U.K. company.
The coater will be capable of applying coatings between 50 -2000 microns with a viscosity range of between 20,000cPs – 2,000,000cPs.

This is achieved using an advanced design of knife system incorporating
two electrically heated blades both capable of being electrically heated up to 100degrees C.

The coating head will also incorporate a precision heated backing roller.

Provision to up-grade to automatic closed loop control of the coating head by utilising the on machine coat weight monitoring system is provided.

PILOT PLANT COATER

Emerson & Renwick has opened a dedicated pilot coating facility at our Accrington factory to promote the technology of coating and laminating machinery from Dixon, which was acquired last year, by Emerson & Renwick Ltd.

A Dixon model 160 pilot plant coater will allow customers to develop their production processes with a complete range of techniques such as:

• Direct and reverse gravure
• Air knife
• Meyer bar and offset gravure

The plant is housed in a stand alone facility, where customers can conduct private production runs and test new coating procedures.

EMERSON and RENWICK PURCHASE DIXON NAME and I.P.

Emerson and Renwick Ltd are pleased to announce that as of 1st August 2002 they have acquired the Dixon name together with the Intellectual Property. Key members of the Dixon Technologies (formerly T.H.Dixon) sales and design team are now Emerson and Renwick employees.

Dixon Technologies is recognised as one of the worlds leading suppliers of coating and laminating equipment with a strong position in machines for light sensitive filmic products, pilot coaters and custom built coating lines for continuous web processing.

Emerson and Renwick has been in business for over 80 years and has an outstanding reputation for specialised web-handling machinery for a variety of coating, printing and embossing processes. The Dixon range of products and customer base will form a significant addition to the Emerson and Renwick business.

A major benefit and addition to Dixons business resource is provided by the Emerson and Renwick in-house facilities, including mechanical and control systems manufacture, pre-delivery assembly and testing etc.

Overall Emerson and Renwick see great opportunities for the increased product range. Dixons will operate as a division of Emerson and Renwick with a Sales and Design office in the Letchworth area.
